Where

SAN LAN Park, Lakeland, FL

Address: 3929 US 98 South, Lakeland, FL 33812

When

Saturday November 5, 2011

Why

To bring the best Florida middle school runners and teams together, to acclimate these runners to a large championship race, and to recognize the efforts of remarkable coaches!

Eligibility for Participation

Individuals:

Because of the popularity of last years race and the concern for not wanting to exceed the number of participants that the Course can safely handle, this year any individual who wishes to run in the championship division MUST qualify in one of the qualifying meets.   No qualification is required for the open race.

Teams:

Both championship divisions will be scored for teams. 7 runners max in the Championship Division. Teams MUST be composed of kids who attend the same middle school regardless of whether the team competes under the name of the school or some other nomenclature.  Teams will qualify based on their place in one of the qualifying meets set forth below.

Qualifiying Meets

Basic Qualifiers:

Basic Qualifiers will be posted on the FLYRA website and FLRunners.com.   Generally any Conference, League, City or County Championship will serve as a qualifier-- provided the results are posted on FLRunners.com.  Additionally, Invitational Meets with 8 or more teams will be considered if a request is made to FLYRA prior to the meet and the results are posted on FLRunners.com.   Some smaller meets may be considered in geographic areas where there are otherwise no other qualifying opportunities.   Qualifying from a Basic Qualifying Meet will follow the formula:  Top 25% of Finishing Teams, and Top 10% of Finishing Individuals qualify.  Teams numbers will not be rounded up.

Super Qualifiers:

Will have a fixed number of automatice qualifying spots, Top 5 Teams and Top 15 individuals.  The purpose of the Super Qualifiers is two-fold, 1) to give an opportunity for teams and individuals throughout the State to travel to an open meet with several qualification spots available, and 2) To encourage the growth of some well run meets on good courses to attract better competition.

This year, Super Qualifiers will be:  FLRunners.com Invitational, Disney World Classic, Little Everglades Pre-State Invitational, and Dade County Youth Fair Meet.

If you want to inquire about making your meet a qualifier, please send meet information to Jason Byrne (jason@flrunners.com) so that the meet information will be added to the master calendar. Those details will be forwarded to the meet planning committee for consideration.

As a rule of thumb recognized county or conference championships (public or private) that run a quality meet and report complete meet results to flrunners.com will be given the rubber stamp as a standard qualifier (1-to-5 qualifying teams ratio). All other meets will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What if a club team (members are not from the same school)wins one of the TOP 5 qualifying spots in a Super qualifier?

Top 5 school based teams will qualify for the MS State Championships.

What if a middle school runner is in Top 7 on the high school varisty team and can't participate in the middle school division of a Super Qualifier. Can his participation in the Varsity High school race count?

No it does not.
1) It is our position this year that that athletes must qualify via the qualifying meets, and 2) because our State Meet conflicts with High School Districts, this is an either/or proposition for kids.
